LLMs.txt Protocol

Make your public documentation discoverable by AI assistants through the llms.txt protocol.

When you publish documentation publicly on Meldoc, AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude can automatically discover and navigate your content. They do this by reading machine-friendly index files at predictable URLs — no crawling required.

Endpoints

Meldoc serves three llms.txt endpoints for your public content, plus a root https://public.meldoc.io/llms.txt that explains the protocol itself.

Workspace — https://public.meldoc.io/{workspace-slug}/llms.txt lists all public projects in a workspace.

Project — https://public.meldoc.io/{workspace-slug}/{project}/llms.txt lists all public documents in a project.

Document — https://public.meldoc.io/{workspace-slug}/{project}/{document}/llms.txt shows document details and metadata.

Append /llms.txt to any public URL to get its navigation context.

How AI assistants navigate

An AI assistant can walk the hierarchy to find what it needs:

  1. Fetch /{workspace}/llms.txt to discover projects.
  2. Fetch /{project}/llms.txt to find documents.
  3. Fetch /{document}/llms.txt for document metadata.
  4. Follow the document link to read the actual content.

This lets AI tools explore your documentation efficiently without crawling HTML pages.

Requirements

Your content must be public to appear in llms.txt files. Projects must have Access Level set to Public, and documents must have Access Level set to Public (or inherit Public from the project). Your workspace needs at least one public project.

Only public content is included — private and internal documents are never exposed.
