Search & Ask AI

Search finds any document in your workspace instantly. Ask AI goes further — it reads your published docs and answers questions in plain language.

Search dialog

Press / or select the search icon (magnifying glass) next to the Meldoc logo. The search dialog has two tabs: Search and Ask AI.

How Search Works

Select the Search tab and start typing. Results appear once you’ve typed at least two characters. Search indexes document titles, content, headings, aliases, and code blocks. Asset filenames and comments are not indexed.

Typing a document’s exact alias finds that document directly, even when those words don’t appear in its text — and a Renaming & Redirects finds it too, so an old name you remember still works.

Search results

Results show the document title, a matching content preview, the project name, and the document path. Navigate results with ↑/↓, press Enter to open, or Escape to close.

Filter Results

Select the All projects dropdown to limit results to a specific project. You can do the same from the keyboard: type project::query (for example, dundleros-api::authentication) and the part before :: scopes the search to that project instead of being searched as text.

By default, only published documents appear. Toggle Include drafts to see draft documents too. Archiving Documents are hidden by default — toggle Include archived to bring them into results.

Access Control

Search respects your permissions — you only see documents you can access. Workspace members — editors and read-only members alike — see every document of the workspace, drafts included when toggled on. Public visitors see only public published documents.

Hiding a document from navigation does not hide it from search. Show in navigation decides where a document appears in the sidebar, not who may read it, so a hidden page still comes back in results for everyone who could already open it. See Document Visibility & Access Level.

Ask AI

Ask AI generates answers from your published documentation.

  1. Open search.
  2. Select the Ask AI tab.
  3. Type your question (at least 10 characters).
  4. Select Ask AI.

Ask AI mode

The response includes an answer, source documents, and links to relevant pages. Ask AI answers from documents you have access to — never assets or workspace settings. By default it uses only published docs; turn on Include drafts to let it also draw on drafts. When an answer uses a draft, you’ll see a note that the response includes information from draft documents.

Each question counts against your Plans & Billing. Check usage in Settings → Plan & Billing.

Tip: Ask complete questions like “How do I create a new project?” rather than short phrases like “create project.”
