Glossary

The glossary manages workspace terminology — terms you define are automatically highlighted in your documents and available to AI tools via MCP.

Open the workspace Overview and select the Glossary tab.

Add a term

  1. Click Add term
  2. Enter the term name
  3. Write a definition using the markdown editor
  4. Add aliases if needed — comma-separated names that also trigger highlighting
  5. Toggle Case sensitive if the term should only match exact casing
  6. Click Create

Edit or delete a term

Click the edit or delete icon on any term row. Deleting a term removes it from the glossary and stops highlighting in documents.

Import and export

Export all terms by clicking Export and selecting a format — JSON, YAML, or CSV. The file downloads immediately and includes every term in your glossary.

Import terms from an existing file by clicking Import and selecting a JSON, YAML, or CSV file. Meldoc matches terms by name (case-insensitive): existing terms are updated, new ones are created. Maximum 500 terms per import.

Note: CSV aliases use semicolons as separators (;), not commas. New terms added via import count against your plan’s term limit; existing terms that are updated do not.

Term highlighting

Terms are automatically highlighted in the document editor. The first occurrence of each term is underlined with a dashed line — hover to see the definition in a tooltip. Aliases are matched too.

Terms are not highlighted in headings, code blocks, inline code, or links.

Access control

By default, all workspace members can edit glossary terms. To restrict editing to Admins only:

  1. Go to Settings → General
  2. Under Glossary, set Edit Access to Admins Only

All members can always read terms and see highlights regardless of this setting.

Integration tokens

When Integration Tokens, enable Glossary Write to let the token create, edit, and delete terms. Without it, the token has read-only glossary access.

Note: The toggle only appears when the token role is Write or higher and you have glossary edit permission.

AI assistant access

Any AI assistant connected to Meldoc via MCP has access to your glossary. It can list terms, fetch definitions, and — with the right token permissions — add or update terms. See MCP Tools Reference for the five glossary tools (glossary_list, glossary_get, glossary_add, glossary_update, glossary_delete).

Term limits

Each plan includes a glossary term limit. Your current usage and limit are shown on the Plan & Limits page under Glossary Terms in Plans & Billing. Glossary is not available on the Free plan — when your plan lacks it, the Glossary tab shows an upgrade prompt.
