Document Short Links

Every document has a short link — a stable address you can paste into chat, an email, or a ticket to point a teammate straight at it.

A short link looks like this:

app.meldoc.io/d/XEq2iGMl

It’s the link Copy link gives you everywhere in Meldoc — there’s no separate long version to choose from.

Copy link puts the short link on your clipboard. You’ll find it in two places:

From the document — open the Share popup and select Copy next to the Team link.

From the document tree — open a document’s More (⋮) menu in the sidebar and select Copy link.

A confirmation appears once the link is on your clipboard.

What makes it stable

The short link keeps working through changes that would normally break a URL. Move the document to another project, rename it, or change its alias — the short link still lands on the same document. Paste it once and trust it to keep pointing where you meant.

What opening one does

A short link is an internal link, so it asks for sign-in and access — it isn’t a way to share publicly. When someone opens app.meldoc.io/d/XEq2iGMl:

If they’re signed in with access, Meldoc takes them straight to the document.

If they’re not signed in, they sign in first, then land on the document.

If the link is wrong, they lack access, or the document was deleted, they reach a Not Found page.

To share a document with people outside your team, you need a public link instead. That is a different, full public.meldoc.io/... URL and it is never shortened — so if the link you copied is short, it is the team one, whatever the document’s access level says. See Document Visibility & Access Level for access levels and public document URLs.

What’s next?

Document Visibility & Access Level — Control who can view a document and get its public link.

Magic Links (Wiki Links) — Link between documents inside your content with [[alias]] syntax.
