Project Access Control

Choose who can see your project — workspace members only, anyone with the link, or the entire internet.

Every project has an access level. It controls the project page and, by default, every document inside it.

Access levels

Private — only workspace members can open the project. No public URL. Best for internal documentation and sensitive content.

Unlisted — anyone with the direct link can view the project, but it isn’t listed or indexed. Best for sharing with external stakeholders or beta readers.

Public — visible to everyone on the internet and discoverable via search. Best for open-source projects and public help centers.

Change access level

  1. Open your project.
  2. In the project header, select the Project settings (gear) icon.
  3. Expand Access Settings.
  4. In Default Access Level, select the access level you want.
  5. Select Save Changes.

Public URL

Unlisted and public projects are served at a URL built from your workspace and project aliases:

https://public.meldoc.io/workspace-slug/project-alias

For the URL to work, the project needs an alias, the access level must be Unlisted or Public, and documents must be Published — not drafts. See Document Workflow for publishing.

To copy the URL, open the Project settings dialog and expand Access Settings. When the project is publicly accessible, the public URL appears with a copy button (Copy public link) and a View link.

Document inheritance

Each document inherits the project’s access level by default. Override it per document — set a document to Private to keep it hidden inside a public project, or Public to expose it inside an otherwise private one. Full rules are on Document Visibility & Access Level.

Tip: You can also share a single document by setting it to Unlisted with a password, even inside a private project.

Plan limits

Public and unlisted projects are a paid feature:

  • Free — private projects only
  • Pro and Enterprise — unlimited public and unlisted
